Master- Philip Moyse

Hi! I'm Philip, and I am studying maths here in Southampton. I began learning to ring in 2007, back home in rural Suffolk. I quickly realised I’d found a hobby I love, and have never looked back!

Since coming to Southampton I've indulged in plenty of ringing, but SUGCR is not just about that: there’s plenty of other stuff to get involved in too. Ringing offers so many new opportunities: I've met some great people, been to wonderful places, done lots of silly things and, most importantly, had stupid amounts fun!

Vice Master - Alice Gibbin

Hi, I’m Alice. I come from Surrey and am studying Oceanography here in Southampton. I started learning to ring in 2006 and since then it has become a really important part of my life.

SUGCR has really boosted my enthusiasm for ringing and given me the opportunity to try lots of new things. This society is a very social one and so is a fantastic opportunity to meet new people, have a drink (or two) and do lots of fun and crazy things. Oh, and a do bit of ringing as well.

Secretary - Lorna Neal

Hello, I’m Lorna, I’m currently studying nursing at university of Southampton. My home tower is Lewes in Sussex where my family rings. I have always loved being involved with bell ringing and all the social activities that come with it.

On coming to university in Southampton I was delighted to hear that there was such an active university band here. At first going to a foreign tower seemed daunting but everyone in Southampton was so friendly that I soon felt like a valued member of the band.  Much like my home tower the university band not only enjoys regular ringing but also had a huge range of socials. Living in a house of nurses ringing at university has been great to make friends with people who I would not have otherwise known.

Treasurer - Kristian Scudamore

Hi, I'm Kristian, I hail from the great city of Bristol, where I started ringing on my fourth birthday, 17 years ago. That's scary!!! Brought up in a family of ringers it was inevitable to happen. I've been hooked ever since, even more so since joining SUGCR where socializing and ringing are just as important as each other.

I'm currently the treasurer, having been master and vice master over the last two years.

Social Secretary - Jon Mills

Hi I’m Jon, I am from Essex, and I am an Engineering student. I have been ringing for 5 years now, although in the year I’ve spent with SUGCR I have improved more than the rest put together!

This year, as Social Secretary I am in charge of making sure everyone enjoys being part of SUGCR, organising events and socials outside of the towers, because everyone knows the most important part of joining a ringing guild is the pub after practice!

If you are unsure whether to carry on ringing now you have come to university, I would strongly recommend continuing, because it is a lot more fun ringing with people your own age, and you will make friends for life if you do!
